Aux Bories de Marquay : an ideal location
Our guesthouse Aux Bories de Marquay is located right in the heart of Périgord Noir and you will reach easily most of the touristic sites of the region. There's only a few minutes driving from Sarlat, a major tourist site, whose medieval city is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
If you are passionate by Prehistory : go to the Vézère valley only 15 minutes driving and Lascaux Cave to only 25 minutes north.
If you prefer History : crisscross the Golden Triangle. You can admire the fortress of Beynac, Domme, La Rocque Gageac or the castle of Puymartin 5 minutes drive from our guest house. You prefer sports activities: go canoeing on the Dordogne or Vézère, or walk or cycle the greenway from Sarlat to Cazoulès.

Walk in the old Sarlat
Enjoy a day to stroll through the old town of Sarlat, a UNESCO world heritage Site. You will be able to take advantage of the numerous markets which take place there all the year, including a market with truffles in winter, specialty of Périgord Noir.
Castle of Beynac
Built on a rocky peak overlooking the Dordogne since 1115, the most emblematic medieval fortress of the region will allow you to enjoy a unique panorama of the valley of 5 castles. Located a 10-minute drive from Sarlat, the visit of the castle of Beynac will take you back centuries to plunge you into a glitzy middle age !
Manor of Eyrignac
Perhaps you will be conquered by the manor of Eyrignac and its French gardens, owned by the same family for more than five hundred years. Here, everything is orderly and calm and the fruit of an exceptional work of control of plants.
Vézère valley amazes by its incredible richness: one finds there not less than 14 sites classified in World Heritage of Unesco along its banks. If you enjoy hiking, hiking trails are arranged throughout its course and from Marquay, you can access Saint Amand-de-Coly for example, ranked among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France" with its magnificent fortified church.
Vézère valley also contains many prehistoric remains, with an impressive concentration around the village of Eyzies (National Museum of Prehistory, caves of Font de Gaume and Combarelles, deposit of Abri Pataud, ...).
Finally, the visit of Limeuil, Saint Amand-de-Coly and Saint Léon-sur-Vézère, all three labeled "Most Beautiful Villages of France", will plunge you into a state of tranquility when you walk the steep streets of one of these medieval villages.
Castle of Puy Martin
Located 5 minutes drive from Aux Bories de Marquay, discover this 15th century castle still decorated with period furniture. Perhaps you will meet the White Lady who haunts these places while walking there !
La Roque Gageac
The best way to discover this village built between a cliff and the Dordogne is to borrow a gabarre, flat-bottomed Perigord boats. Gardens of Marqueyssac
If you love nature, Périgord is full of remarkable gardens including some classified.
Thus the gardens of Marqueyssac, offer the visitors a 150 000 boxwood hen hand-cut in the middle of chaos of rock gardens, cool cascades and theaters of greenery. On the belvederes high perched above the river, the view is lost on the most beautiful sites of the Dordogne: Beynac, Castelnaud, Rogue-Gajeac and Domme.
Greenway of Sarlat/Cazoulès
Installed on the passage of an old railway line, this 21km long greenway will allow you to discover the Dordogne valley, pretty villages and a viaduct safely, on a passable path for bicycles, walkers and runners, roller, ...

Bastides of Périgord
The bastides are new towns of the thirteenth century, both strategic place and place of commerce and life. They have a very particular architectural style, built of gilded stone with very straight pathways and perpendicular intersections. The most beautiful examples of bastides in the Périgord are the towns of Domme, Belvès and Montpazier, all labeled among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France".
At dawn or at sunset, take off from La Roque Gageac or Castelnaud Castle for an hour in weightlessness in the air.
Although the castle itself is not visited, you will enjoy a superb view of the village of Vitrac and the surrounding area by going there. By the way, stop at the Montfort peak.
Chasm of Proumeyssac
Nicknamed the crystal cathedral, the chasm of Proumeyssac is highlighted by a fascinating play of lights. You will be able to discover all the beauty of the calcareous concretions formed at the bottom of this chasm by descending there in nacelle or simply by walking between the stalagmites.
Castel of Castelnaud
Immerse yourself in the Middle Ages at Château de Castelnaud thanks to the very realistic reconstructions of war machines and medieval clothes. While the adults will be able to visit the castle, the little ones will be able to attend the forge of swords, to listen to medieval tales or even to dress in the finery of the lady or the sieur of the castle.
Gardens of Limeuil
The panoramic gardens of Limeuil offer a unique 360 ° view of the confluence of the Dordogne and Vézère rivers. Located on the site of the old castle, they overlook the village of Limeuil classified "most beautiful village of France" and offer visitors a succession of themed gardens.
Enjoy a day to go down the Dordogne or Vézère by canoe or kayak: you can admire from your boat castles perched on the heights of the cliffs or even villages built on the banks of rivers, such as Montfort, Castelnaud or the Roque-Gageac.
Castle of Commarque
This castle, listed as a Historic Monument, will allow you to discover several facets of the Périgord grouped in one place: the cave dwellings, the prehistoric caves and the medieval fortress. Animations are organized for the whole family, with for example the big treasure hunt called "Le Trésor de Commarque". An excursion that will appeal to the greatest number!

Perched on the rock 150 m away, a castle, houses, oratories and shrines are entangled around the chapel of the Black Madonna. To admire it, you will have to climb the 216 steps of the pilgrim staircase just like a pilgrim on the route of Compostela with the added bonus of a breathtaking view.
If you are visiting Rocamadour, why not continue by visiting the Padirac chasm. At 75 meters underground, you will discover an extraordinary underground world on a boat. Booking is highly recommended !
Collonges-la-Rouge offers an original and unusual spectacle, as much by the flamboyance of its stones as by the wealth of its heritage.
Red sandstone with ocher shades, gray slate, blue slate, green vines hanging on the walls form the palette of a small city of dreams. From the 16th century, Collonges became the place of residence of the great officials of the Vicomte de Turenne and the jurists of the chatellenie.
